Melanie Gordon is a self-taught oil and acrylic painter based out of Kingston, Ontario. Throughout her work she focuses primarily on portraiture and still life interpretations; each work an ode to a memory. While frequently working in miniatures, she seeks to capture detail and portray realistic form or, when pertinent, a haze in impression.

Statement:

This oil painting was created in 2020 upon the sudden commencement of COVID-19. It touches on emotional response to chaos and turmoil. A solemn portrait of sadness; the painting evokes feelings of isolation, loneliness and longing for companion. Through a glimpse of a familiar scope in time, the painting aims to inspire reflection and rejoice for human connection.
