Damar resin is a very people and earth friendly ingredient. Damar resin is harvested from trees in Malaysia and these trees are slashed yearly to ooze sap for harvesting. These trees are not damaged from this process; it is very similar to the tapping of maple trees for syrup. As the sap dries and solidifies, it captures insects, dried leaves, and tree bark so when the damar resin arrives in its crystal form at Enkaustikos, all of these embedded impurities must be removed. Enkaustikos heat filters the damar resin to make our wax medium and paint. If you buy this damar you will also have to remove these impurities to make a usable product. Damar in combination with beeswax produces a paint film with a higher index of refraction and Enkaustikos uses it as a main ingredient in their encaustic paints making the colors appear luminous.
* Many encaustic recipes incorrectly suggest that an artist should use damar varnish. This is not a good idea because damar varnish is made with turpentine which is not only flammable but also gives off unhealthy fumes. We would like to emphasize that our wax paints and mediums are made with damar resin and not damar varnish. We heat filter out the impurities from the damar crystals without the use of solvents to make our wax medium and paints. Unlike damar varnish, Enkaustikos Damar Resin is a safe product to work with. The FDA has even approved the use of damar resin to coat the boxes carting fruits and vegetables.

Orders are shipped via Canada Post, at the rate selected at checkout. Rates are calculated based on weight and package size.

International shipping is available at checkout. International orders are shipped via UPS. Any customs fees are the responsibility of the purchaser. Shipping rates are calculated at checkout, we do not offer free shipping on international orders. Unfortunately we are unable to ship to the EU at this time.

Our policy lasts 30 days. If 30 days have gone by since your purchase, unfortunately we can’t offer you a refund or exchange.

To be eligible for a return or exchange, your item must be unused, unopened and in the same condition that you received it. It must also be in the original packaging.

Art Noise does not offer refunds or exchange for original fine art purchased in our gallery.  If the artwork is damaged in shipping, we will work with you on a per-case basis to resolve the issue.
