Cold Press Watercolour Ground turns almost any rigid surface into a watercolour-ready ground with a tooth similar to cold press paper. Brush on thin coats to panels, canvas, or mixed media supports to create a lightly textured, absorbent surface for watercolour, gouache, and inks.

When applied smoothly and evenly with a spreading tool, the finish and appearance is very much like cold press watercolour paper. The ground contains titanium dioxide for a clean, very white and reflective surface for colours. Watercolours may be more easily reworked than on standard watercolour paper. The surface will accept more water and scrubbing without surface lift. Masking fluid adheres and lifts easily with no tearing. The matte finish provides a tooth for all dry media to be applied.

Formulated with 100% acrylic emulsion to ensure that over time it will remain flexible, not flake, crack or crumble from the surface.

In general, add acrylic colour into the medium rather than the other way around, and test small amounts until you understand how it behaves. Use thinner, more fluid mediums for glazing and transparent layers; choose gels, pastes, and grounds for building texture or preparing surfaces.

Allow each layer of medium to dry fully before applying more paint or additional coats, especially when working thick. For varnishes and topcoats, only apply them to thoroughly dry paintings for the best clarity and durability.
