Notan, the Light & Dark: a Japanese Design Principle Workshop with Sumera Khan
Notan, the Light & Dark: a Japanese Design Principle Workshop with Sumera Khan
Explore the timeless principle of Notan, the Japanese art of balance between light and dark. In this workshop, participants will study black-and-white reproductions of master paintings and photographs to uncover the underlying value structures that create harmony and strength in composition. Through guided exercises, you’ll translate these observations into your own Notan studies, learning to simplify complex images into balanced, expressive designs.
This workshop is part of Sumera Khan's Sketchbook Stories series, which aims to help artists discover new ways to create in their sketchbooks and beyond!
All materials will be provided.
